Which Cetaphil Cleanser is Right for me?

Facial cleansers are important because they remove impurities, dirt and makeup from our skin that can cause irritation. The problem is, some cleansers and soaps are too harsh, stripping the natural oils from our skin, leaving it feeling tight and dry.

Cetaphil liquid and foaming cleansers are designed to remove excess oils and impurities without stripping or over-drying. Developed to work in harmony with skin’s natural pH and assist skin moisture, they are ideal for sensitive skin.

Every one of our Cetaphil cleansers has been carefully formulated to gently address your skin’s needs. Choosing the right cleanser depends on your skin type.

What skin type do I have?

Your skin type is likely to fall into one of four categories – normal, oily, dry or combination. Skin types can change over time. Younger people, for example, are more likely to have normal or oily skin. As we get older, our skin produces less natural moisture and the top layers especially become drier.

Cetaphil’s broad range of facial cleansers have been carefully formulated to address the different needs for each skin type.

Normal skin

Normal skin feels not too dry or oily and has fewer imperfections such as pimples and open pores.[1]

For normal skin types, we recommend a choice of three Cetaphil cleansers:

-Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Our best-selling cleanser, a daily gentle cleanser for even the most sensitive skin.

-Gentle Face Gentle Foaming Cleanser

An instant foaming facial cleanser that’s infused with skin conditioners and a vitamin complex to soften and clean, leaving skin feeling fresh and moisturised.

-Cetaphil Face Daily Exfoliating Cleanser

An instant foaming facial cleanser that’s infused with skin conditioners and a vitamin complex to clean and soften the skin.

Combination skin

Combination skin can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others. It’s often associated with more blackheads and open pores and can sometimes look shiny.[1]

For combination skin, we recommend the use of two Cetaphil cleansers:

-Cetaphil Face Gentle Foaming Cleanser (for the less oily areas of your face)

An instant foaming facial cleanser that’s infused with skin conditioners and a vitamin complex to soften and clean, leaving skin feeling fresh and moisturised.

-Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser (for those areas more prone to produce oil, such as your T-zone, nose, forehead and chin).

A lanolin-free daily cleanser, which removes surface oils, dirt and makeup without blocking pores.

Dry skin

Because it lacks water, dry skin tends to be less elastic with a dull, rough complexion and more apparent wrinkles.[1]

For dry skin types, we recommend:

-Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

A soap-free daily gentle cleanser, which hydrates your skin as it cleanses.

Oily skin

Oily skin is often shiny. Pimples, enlarged pores, blackheads and blemishes tend to be more common.[1]

For oily skin, we recommend:

-Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser

A lanolin-free daily cleanser, which removes surface oils, dirt and makeup without blocking pores.

How should I apply a cleanser on my face?

It would seem the most straightforward routine in the book, yet there’s a bit of an art to cleansing your face to get the best results. These five tips will help cleans your face effectively, without irritating or stripping the moisture from your skin.

Cleanse morning and night

Dry or sensitive skin may only need one cleanse per day. For most other skin types, we recommend cleansing in the morning and before you go to bed to remove grime and dirt that build ups up overnight or during the day.

Use lukewarm water

Extreme hot or cold water may irritate or dry out your skin. Warm water will encourage your cleanser to build up a healthy foam, while helping to preserve your skin’s natural hydrating oils.[2]

Wash your face and neck

People often stop at the chin and forget their neck and jawline, which can attract equally as much dirt.

Gently massage the cleanser into your skin

Massaging helps to stimulate circulation, uplift the firmness of the skin, and release tension in the face for a healthier glow.[3]

Pat dry with a soft towel

If you leave water to evaporate on your skin, it may cause irritation and dryness. Gently pat dry your face after you wash with a soft towel, being extra cautious around the sensitive under-eye area.

Follow up with Cetaphil moisturiser

Moisturising helps to seal the moisture into your skin after cleansing. Cetaphil’s range of moisturisers has been carefully formulated to offer gentle yet effective hydration after cleansing.
